Aduba joins Toy Story spin-off Lightyear

Nigerian-American actor Uzo Aduba has joined the voice cast of animated sci-fi film Lightyear, which focuses on Buzz Lightyear from the Toy Story franchise.

The film is produced by LA-based Pixar Animation Studios and Walt Disney Pictures and is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. It tells the story of how a young test pilot becomes the Space Ranger Buzz Lightyear.

“So this is happening. To infinity…” said Aduba on Instagram, with a nod to Buzz Lightyear’s famous catchphrase. Her character is named Alicia Hawthorne. Lightyear is scheduled for theatrical release in the US on June 17, 2022.

Aduba played Shirley Chisholm in the Hulu miniseries Mrs America, a role for which she won a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series. She also stars in HBO drama In Treatment and in Amazon Prime series Solos.
