TVC resumes operations after arson

TVC Communications, which owns and operates TV and radio stations including Max FM and Adaba FM, has resumed operations after being targeted in an arson attack during the End SARS protest.

Some 44 vehicles, four outside broadcasting vans, three production control rooms and two master control room studio playout machines were destroyed in the incident, while several workers on duty were also injured, said TVC.

“TVC Communications condemns this senseless attack on a company which endeavours merely to disseminate unbiased and balanced news, information and entertainment programmes to Nigerian audiences at home abroad, and which supports the livelihoods of 550 full-time employees and thousands more indirectly,” said a TVC statement.

TVC CEO Andrew Hanlon added: “On October 21 2020, just hours after innocent, peaceful protestors were gunned down in Lagos city, our TV studios and production centre were burned to the ground by rioters and looters destroying years of hard work and huge investment.

“We are the lucky ones. None of our staff was killed or seriously injured, and bricks and mortar can be replaced, unlike the lives lost at the Lekki Toll Plaza. Last Friday, however, despite the odds, our TV and radio stations returned to the airwaves. Determined more than ever before, we will be stronger, better and humbled.”
