Kemi Adetiba teases return to directing

The King of Boys director and multi-award-winning Nollywood filmmaker Kemi Adetiba has announced plans to produce a new movie called To Kill a Monkey.

Adetiba said she aims to challenge herself as part of her return to directing movies after taking a break.

She said: “I still have a lot to say. And I intend to say it all – through film, of course. I took some time out, and now I’m back, ready and hungry again. And this time, I intend to enjoy and savour the project, not just the afterbirth. But I gave myself this challenge because I know I can crush it.

“It’s different. I’m slightly out my comfort zone with this one, and my high expectations and intentions for the film don’t make the pressure lighter – but the idea of this film came to me on the auspicious morning of my surprise engagement. So it’s already blessed.

“Almost every time I have entered a Lyft or Uber here in New York, a Nigerian song comes up either on the radio or driver’s playlist. It’s so amazing to see Nigerian music go mainstream. Nigerian movies are surely up next and I will be part of that revolution.

“Super grateful for everyone doing amazing things in the industry. It inspires me greatly, allows me to see how much farther we all can go, and it makes me even more hungry to get back on the court.”

Details about the project have yet to be revealed.
