Nigerian film and TV production company TNC Africa has unveiled a new indigenous Yoruba series.
Ololade is set in Lagos and directed by Adeniyi Joseph. It tells the story of two friends – a down-on-his-luck high school teacher and a loud playboy mechanic – who both come into money in mysterious ways.
With their newfound wealth, they decide to start a business to build the kind of life they had always imagined for themselves. However, they are not quite prepared for the bad luck that follows.
The cast includes Kunle Idowu, Femi Adebayo, Mercy Aigbe, Mide Martins, Adebowale Adedayo, Kunle Idowu, Jaiye Kuti and Damilola Oni.
TNC Africa was founded in 2021 by CEO Olawale Adetula alongside Gbemi Olateru-Olagbegi and Daniel Aideyan. Its credits include Little Black Book, Our Best Friend’s Wedding and A-Zed.
Joseph said on Instagram: “I directed my debut web series, TNC’s first ever show in an indigenous language, and the writing team was led by the legendary Lani Aisida, the same person who wrote My Name is Azed.
“I honestly pray that you love Ololade like we loved making it. I am excited to join the TNC team, led by the intelligent mind of Wale, the very cool and listening Daniel and now the delectable Gbemi.”
Ololade is the fifth production from the year-old outfit and its first original title for 2022. The release date for Ololade has yet to be announced.
Nigerian radio presenter and actor Gbemi Olateru-Olagbegi has joined TNC Africa, a year-old film and TV production company committed to telling original African stories, as co-founder and executive producer.
The Lagos-based start-up was launched by Olawale Adetula and Daniel Aideyan in January 2021. It has since produced 300 hours of television content.
Olateru-Olagbegi, who left radio station The Beat 99.9 FM last December, said on Twitter: “I am very excited and proud to join TNC Africa as co-founder and executive producer. I have always been part of the TNC family. From the days when we launched the website and created a community, where young Nigerians could express themselves, to hosting and curating those interesting TNC events and parties. If you ever attended one of those, you would know we created magic.
“And then actually starring in web series – it has been quite the journey. I am so ready to continue building with Olawale Adetula and Daniel Aideyan. Watch this space. We hit 2022 flying, not running.”
Adetula added: “The red lion has joined the team. I’m super happy to finally let everyone know that my longtime friend Gbemi has joined myself and Daniel as co-founders and executive producers at TNC Africa.
“Gbemi has been a long-time supporter, investor and friend of the TNC family and couldn’t have been more perfect to come onboard and take the lead on all our exciting productions as we step into our next growth stage. Stay tuned because we have more exciting news coming.”
As well as working at The Beat 99.9 FM, Olateru-Olagbegi is an entrepreneur and co-host of the Off-Air with Gbemi & Toolz podcast. She was deputy programme director at Beat FM from 2011 to 2016 and programme director at sister company Naija FM 102.7 from 2011 to 2017.
Her first acting appearance was in 2017, in a web series titled Our Best Friend’s Wedding. She played the role of Kemi in the romantic dramedy by The Naked Convos in collaboration with RedTv, and in 2020 featured in a short film by The Naked Convos titled Heaven Baby.
TNC Africa, a YouTube channel dedicated to Nollywood movies and series, is lining up a second season of miniseries Our Best Friend’s Wedding.
The romantic dramedy follows a young man who buys an engagement ring on a whim. He recruits his two female best friends to help him go through a list of potential candidates and sets off on a series of events that leads to a wedding.
Season one of Our Best Friend’s Wedding launched in 2017 while the second season will premiere in October. It is directed and produced by Belinda Yanga, executive produced by Olawale Adetula and features a cast including Eso Dike, Adekanla Desalu, Oshuwa Tunde-Imoyo, John Njamah and Marycolette Unamka.
“Our Best Friend’s Wedding, our award-winning YouTube series, is coming back for a second season. This season is packed back-to-back with drama and we can’t wait for you to see the beautiful show we have created,” said the TNC Africa channel on Instagram.
