Hi-Life Fest music show to debut

The third edition of the Hi-Life Fest music talent competition will be aired on TV across Africa for the first time.

The 12-week show will be hosted by Nollywood actor Gideon Okeke, best known for his role in the hit TV series Tinsel.

Regional auditions are set to be held in Enugu, Asaba, Awka and Aba from June 9, after which participants will undergo mentoring by leading acts in the Nigerian music industry in Lagos.

The quarterfinal will take place in Port Harcourt on July 14, while the semi-final and final will be on July 29 in Enugu and on August 11 in Onitsha respectively.

Hi-Life fest is an initiative from Life Continental Lager Beer, part of Nigerian Breweries.

Life Lager brand manager Chidi Egwu said: “Hi-Life Fest has been one of our most beloved experiential platforms. This is one of the ways we connect with our consumers and celebrate our shared love for highlife music.

“After two successful editions, which produced two remarkably talented individuals, we’ve decided to take this competition a step further and showcase these talents to the whole of Nigeria.

“Our partnership with [lifestyle and music channel] Soundcity will see us release episodes of this year’s competition. This television treatment will not only showcase the talents of our contestants but will also profile their evolution as they go through the tournament.

“We want to celebrate their progress and show the world that some of the best musical talents can be discovered in south-eastern Nigeria.”

Family Feud heads to Nigeria

Lagos-based production company Ultima has picked up rights to long-running US gameshow format Family Feud and plans to launch a Nigerian adaptation.

Ultima is the company behind the Nigerian version of popular TV gameshow Who Wants to be a Millionaire? and Project Fame West Africa, but said its adaptation of Family Feud will gain more success than its previous shows.

“Ultima is ready to launch the format for Nigerian audience later in the year, and this move promises to be another success, even bigger than Who Wants to be a Millionaire?, Project Fame West Africa and any other from our stables.”

The Nigerian version of Millionaire has aired on NTA since 2004, while talent show Project Fame West Africa, an adaptation of Fame Academy, has aired since 2008 in Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone on broadcasters including TVC, MITV, DBN, SoundCity, ONTV and GetTV.

Family Feud, distributed by FremantleMedia International, is a gameshow in which two families of five contestants compete to name the most popular responses to survey questions in order to win cash prizes and goody bags. The original version premiered in 1976 on ABC in the US.

Ultima has yet to announce when Family Feud will be premiered or on which channels it will air. Ultima is one of the leading media production companies in sub-Saharan Africa, delivering end-to-end TV programmes, post-production facilities and multi-platform distribution channels.
