Nigerian streamer Ammarra orders doc duo

Nigerian SVoD platform Ammarra, owned by animation studio EVCL, has greenlit two feature documentaries that focus on the history and culture of Africa.

Adamu Waziri

Shere Hills is about the range of hills and rock formations on Nigeria’s Jos Plateau and explores the history of the community that lives there. It is produced by Lyrebird Waves.

Produced by Mbari Library, the second documentary is titled Lagos and is about the history of Nigeria’s largest city and former capital.

EVCL director Adamu Waziri told C21 that now he is looking to commission more shows that focus on telling African stories for Ammarra.

“We want to commission shows that are about Africa, educational and are suitable for family co-viewing. The length of the show doesn’t matter – it could be five minutes or 90 minutes – but what is important is that the content brings value,” he added.

Ammarra was launched at the end of 2019 as an online platform for EVCL’s original children’s programming, with its African culture show Bino & Fino headlining the service.

Bino & Fino follows the adventures of a brother and sister from Nigeria as each day brings something new for them to learn, whether it’s an African dish, an animal, a country, a word in an African language, a musical instrument, African geography or a folk tale.
