South African movie Seriously Single has been picked up by global streamer Netflix, which will make it available at the end of this month.
Seriously Single comes from Johannesburg’s Burnt Onion Productions and was released earlier this year. Written by Lwazi Mvusi (Farewell Ella Bella), the film was produced and directed by Burnt Onion MD Katleho Ramaphakela (Bedford Wives) and creative director Rethabile Ramaphakela (Bedford Wives).
The Johannesburg-set film follows two best friends: Dineo, a romantic social media expert who yearns for love and a fairytale marriage, and Noni, a commitment-phobe who finds herself falling for an unlikely man.
Fulu Mugovhani (Scandal, Isidingo) stars as Dineo, with Tumi Morake – an actor and writer best known for being the first African woman to have her own show on Netflix, WTF Tumi – plays Noni.
Seriously Single will become available on Netflix on July 31. The streamer has previously pledged to diversify its content with films and series from various cultural hot spots, and recently ordered a second season of South African teen drama series Blood & Water.
