Wild Bunch executive Cécile Gaget has been appointed CEO at Carrousel Studios, the French media company recently launched by Lupin star Omar Sy alongside Thomas Benski and Louis Leterrier.
Starting her new role on May 1, Gaget is charged with ramping up Carrousel’s production slate and forging strategic partnerships.
Her remit also includes overseeing development, production, financing and distribution strategies.
Gaget joins from European distributor Wild Bunch, where she served as head of film and worked on the Oscar-winning movie The Boy & the Heron.
Prior to that, Gaget was president of international production and distribution at European producer and financier Anton.
She also previously spent almost 10 years at French studio Gaumont, where she served first as head of international sales before being upped to head of international production and distribution.
During that spell, Gaget oversaw Gaumont’s global sales, including acquisitions, English- and local-language productions and foreign remakes. She also set up Gaumont’s US films division.
Launched in March, Carrousel Studios is based in Paris, with offices in London, LA and Senegal.
Founders Sy, Benski and Leterrier describe their outfit as an “artists first” company that will make scripted TV series and movies across genres including action, thriller, sci-fi, fantasy and comedy.
Sy is best known for his starring role as professional thief Assane Diop in Netflix’s hit French mystery thriller Lupin. Benski previously co-founded London-based Pulse Films, while Leterrier has directed Hollywood blockbusters such as The Incredible Hulk and Fast X, as well as Netflix fantasy series The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance.
In a joint statement, Sy, Benski and Leterrier said: “With her extraordinary experience and deep international relationships, we know Cecile will be an incredible asset to Carrousel Studios.
“Our goal is to create a home for talent – both emerging and established – looking to make passion projects in the most efficient and rewarding manner, both creatively and financially, and we believe Cecile will help us achieve it.”
Gaget added: “I am very grateful to Omar, Louis and Thomas for their trust in my abilities to help build and lead this studio to its fullest potential.
“I’m thrilled to embark on this journey with Carrousel Studios, united by a shared vision and a collective drive to create and produce high-end and bold content for a global audience.”
