Nigerian radio presenter and actor Gbemi Olateru-Olagbegi has joined TNC Africa, a year-old film and TV production company committed to telling original African stories, as co-founder and executive producer.
The Lagos-based start-up was launched by Olawale Adetula and Daniel Aideyan in January 2021. It has since produced 300 hours of television content.
Olateru-Olagbegi, who left radio station The Beat 99.9 FM last December, said on Twitter: “I am very excited and proud to join TNC Africa as co-founder and executive producer. I have always been part of the TNC family. From the days when we launched the website and created a community, where young Nigerians could express themselves, to hosting and curating those interesting TNC events and parties. If you ever attended one of those, you would know we created magic.
“And then actually starring in web series – it has been quite the journey. I am so ready to continue building with Olawale Adetula and Daniel Aideyan. Watch this space. We hit 2022 flying, not running.”
Adetula added: “The red lion has joined the team. I’m super happy to finally let everyone know that my longtime friend Gbemi has joined myself and Daniel as co-founders and executive producers at TNC Africa.
“Gbemi has been a long-time supporter, investor and friend of the TNC family and couldn’t have been more perfect to come onboard and take the lead on all our exciting productions as we step into our next growth stage. Stay tuned because we have more exciting news coming.”
As well as working at The Beat 99.9 FM, Olateru-Olagbegi is an entrepreneur and co-host of the Off-Air with Gbemi & Toolz podcast. She was deputy programme director at Beat FM from 2011 to 2016 and programme director at sister company Naija FM 102.7 from 2011 to 2017.
Her first acting appearance was in 2017, in a web series titled Our Best Friend’s Wedding. She played the role of Kemi in the romantic dramedy by The Naked Convos in collaboration with RedTv, and in 2020 featured in a short film by The Naked Convos titled Heaven Baby.
