African pay TV operator StarTimes and Nigerian record label Kennis Music have collaborated to organise a singing competition aimed at uncovering the next Afrobeats superstar.
In Naija Star Search, 18 promising contestants will attempt to sing their way to stardom while fighting for a chance to win the grand prize of N10 million (US$24,000).
Naija Star Search is hosted by TV personality VJ Adams, while the judges include Nigerian music producer and Kennis Music CEO Kenny Ogungbe, music producer Olumide Ogunade (aka ID Cabasa) and Nigerian Afropop singer Iyanya Mbuk.
Ogungbe on Instagram: “We want to celebrate African music; we want to listen to them sing Nigerian songs like Tu Face songs. This is different from other competitions we have seen. We are identifiers and we will pick the best for Nigeria.”
Although the show’s debut date has yet to be confirmed, it will air over 13 weeks, with weekly episodes plus daily highlights, on StarTimes’ Nollywood channels.
