Nigeria Fashion Show turned into reality series

The Nigeria Fashion Show launched in 1997

A reality TV series based on the Nigeria Fashion Show (NFS) will attempt to find the country’s best fashion designer.

The NFS is organised by Legendary Gold in collaboration with the Embassy of Germany and Abuja’s Transcorp Hilton Hotel, which hosted the annual event yesterday.

It saw 20 young fashion designers presented to the public. They will live together as they go through a month-long workshop, before half of them are eliminated from the house.

The final 10 will compete to be named Nigeria’s best designer at a grand finale in Lagos next June.

The NFS is a competition for young and upcoming fashion designers from across Nigeria and describes itself as the first and only national fashion event in the country.

Lexy Mojo-Eyes, CEO of Legendary Gold, said: “Rejuvenating the Nigeria Fashion Show as a reality TV show is stepping up the game again for the Nigerian fashion industry. The goal is to discover and create new entrepreneurs in the Nigerian fashion industry.”

Past NFS winners and participants include Zizi Cardow, Deola Sagoe, Mudi Africa, Frank Oshodi, Modela Couture, Nobel Afrique and Kese Jabare.

Over the years, the NFS has urged Nigerians to make use of local fabrics, designs and accessories. Designers are encouraged to research their ethnic and cultural backgrounds and come up with creative, original and innovative designs that have global appeal.

The NFS debuted in 1997. Apart from the NFS, Legendary Gold also organises Nigeria Fashion Week, the Nigeria Fashion Awards, the Nigeria Model Awards and Africa Fashion Reception.
