Kwara state gov’t revives Kwara TV

Kwara TV, the state television station of Kwara in Western Nigeria, has relaunched as a 24-hour live broadcaster after going off air last September.

The news was announced by state governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who described the move as a major step towards the administration’s vision of making it a leader in the audiovisual industry and giving it viable means of informing the public.

Airing information and entertainment programming, Kwara TV is part of the Kwara State Broadcasting Corporation (KSBC) and went live on Tuesday this week. The station went off air last September after many years of patchy reception and low viewing figures.

Kwara TV is available in Kwara State on StarTimes channel 113 and Free TV channel 502. KSBC plans to add the station to the StarTimes platform nationwide and to MultiChoice satellite platform DStv, according to Olatunde Michaels, general manager of the Kwara State Television Authority.

AbdulRazaq said on Instagram: “History is again being made as we not only breathed life back to the decayed Kwara TV but we also switched on its 24-hour transmission.

“Kwara TV is one of the legacies of the founding fathers of this state. Like many such institutions, Kwara TV gradually lost its glory. I’m happy that we have brought it back just like we also brought back the crumbling Radio Kwara, which is now leading the pack in the state with 24-hour broadcast.

“Hitherto, our people were going to the Republic of Benin to place adverts – political, healthcare and others – to cover Baruten local government area. In few months from now, that will be a thing of the past. I am happy with the improvement I saw at Kwara TV. I am really impressed.”
