Hi-Impact heads to MipTV

Nigerian broadcaster and production company Hi-Impact TV, a subsidiary of Solution Media & Infotech, will be heading to the MipTV global content market next month.

MipTV takes place annually in Cannes, France and its next edition runs from 30 March to 2 April.

The event is an opportunity for participants to launch and discover new content, forge business partnerships, negotiate financing and distribution agreements, find coproduction opportunities and explore the latest trends.

There will also be pitches highlighting projects looking for international financing and copro partners as well as curated international coproduction and distribution networking sessions to discuss challenges and opportunities in the financing of TV shows.

Ibafo-based Hi-Impact TV, which produces and webcasts programming and operates TV and radio stations in Nigeria, will be among the companies at the event.

Victoria Odimba, head of Hi-Impact TV, said the company’s executives will be at the event to buy content as well as review the market for future sales. Hi-Impact is looking for kids’, factual, drama, music and sports programming.

Odimba added that she was looking forward to networking and collaborating with other attendees. “We certainly envision forging good partnerships as we have done over the years and hope that soon we will have coproductions and content exchange with several international organisations like us,” she said.

“Hi-Impact TV is working on several new projects, including expansion of our station to the UK and indigenous/in-house content creation productions and we believe MipTV is a great platform to gain insights as well as build business opportunities.

“The Nigerian content market has improved tremendously. However, more attention needs to be given to the plot and production quality of the content. This is one of the reasons Hi-Impact TV was established to operate as Nigeria’s first full HD station in order to raise the bar for content providers in Nigeria and the world at large.”

Hi-Impact TV is one of eight Nigerian companies so far signed up to attend MipTV. The others are Bafot Studios, Asake Productions, House Gabriel Studios, Supernet, Femo Vision, Black Studios and Geenamoore & Associates.

Solution seeks Impact with family channel

Tourism and entertainment company Solution Media & Infotech is launching a family-oriented TV channel.

Hi-Impact TV will launch on June 1, according to Solution Media & Infotech chairman Prince Adeyanju Lipede.

Lipede said the channel would deliver quality family-friendly content, including soap operas and edutainment.

Under the motto “Securing the Future,” Hi-Impact TV will air “programmes that have a meaningful impact for the family,” he added.

The channel’s programming also has a nod to the past, Lipede noted. “When the Mexican soap operas came to our screens, they were captivating. The storylines were so interesting that everybody – young and old, male and female – wanted to watch them. The idea is to recapture all those things that are missing in the entertainment world.

“Viewers will see programmes like the popular America’s Got Talent, X Factor and a lot of other programmes that are captivating audiences nationally and internationally. There are also Mexican soap operas like When You are Mine, The Gardener’s Daughter and Moreno.”

Student-targeting show Syllabus for Excellence will also air on the network and aims to prepare Nigerian pupils for exams. “Qualified teachers have been employed to help these pupils based on the current syllabus,” Lipede said.

Hi-Impact TV will air 24 hours a day, kicking off with a live broadcast at the Hi-Impact Planet Amusement Park on June 1. It plans to reach a nationwide and international audience.

The channel will be available on platforms including DSTV, GOtv, Kwesé TV and ViewSat.

Hi-Impact, which launched in June, will broaden its reach with its presence on Eutelsat, which is the third largest satellite operator in the world and currently broadcasts in the Middle East, Africa, Asia and the US.

Victoria Odimba, assistant general manager at Hi-Impact TV, said: “Eutelsat is one of the biggest and oldest satellite operators in the world and is used for broadcasting 6,800 television stations to over 274 million homes throughout the world.”

Hi-Impact prides itself as being the first full HD channel in Nigeria. Upon its launch, it promised more educational entertainment targeted at West African Examinations Council and National Examinations Council students.

“Its HD transmission and edutainment give something different in your home. TV experience mustn’t only be about music and movies, but something educational, with high-quality teachers in your subject areas,” said Odimba.
