Multi-regional satellite operator Spacecom has begun providing Ku-band capacity from its AMOS-17 satellite to German broadcast services company PanAccess for broadcasting to Nigeria.

The move comes as Spacecom aims to further expand its reach in Africa and Asia. PanAccess specialises in providing high-end one-way or two–way CAS and DRM security solutions around the globe.

Roland Schlichting, PanAccess’s CEO, said: “We are thrilled with Spacecom’s response speed that enabled us to be on-air quickly and efficiently. PanAccess views the growth of our broadcast base in Nigeria as an important market and we will continue to add more channels for these customers.”

Eyal Altshuler, Spacecom’s VP sales, said: “Working in tandem with PanAccess, we succeeded in bringing their bouquet on to the air in less than 48 hours after we began designing their solution.

“AMOS-17 is an exciting satellite with its Ku, Ka and HTS C-Band capabilities. The Nigerian market is now experiencing services and communications from the most powerful, technically advanced satellite serving the region. Since the beginning of commercial operations in late 2019, the satellite is already boosting our business around the continent.”

AMOS-17, which was launched last August, will operate from the 17°E position over Africa and will expand and strengthen Spacecom’s coverage of the growing satellite service markets in Africa, Middle East and Europe.
