Bisola Aiyeola to host Family Feud Nigeria

Nigerian actor Bisola Aiyeola has been named as the host of TV gameshow Family Feud Nigeria.

Family Feud sees two families go head-to-head answering simple survey questions. The Nigerian version is being produced by Ultima Studios.

Aired in the US since 1976 by networks including CBS and ABC, the show (aka Family Fortunes) is distributed internationally by Fremantle.

Aiyeola announced the casting news on Instagram, saying: “Ultima Studios auditioned over a 100 possible hosts, brought to you by Ultima Studios and MTN Nigeria. This is like a little dream come true for me because it’s been a long journey with my Ultima family here. What makes this really special for me is that this is a major milestone in my life.

“I am so excited for this journey with Ultima and MTN, seeing as we started out years ago with Project Fame West Africa.”

According to Aiyeola, she is also the first black female host on the 46-year-old format.

The show has been adapted in more than 50 markets. Family Feud Africa, hosted by Steve Harvey, is produced in South Africa by BBC-backed prodco Rapid Blue for broadcaster ETV, where is has aired since 2020. A Ghanaian version of Family Feud is also produced in South Africa and is broadcast on TV3 in Ghana, also with Harvey hosting.

Finding a Kuju heading to big screen

Introducing the Kujus 2: Finding a Kuju

The sequel to 2020 Nigerian comedy-drama movie Introducing the Kujus is set to premiere soon.

Introducing the Kujus 2: Finding a Kuju’s production company TMPL Motion Pictures said on Instagram: “Hallo fam, No, this isn’t the set of your favourite 90s band – it’s the award-winning Kuju clan like you’ve never seen them before. They’re back, bigger and with much more drama than ever! This time we’re Finding a Kuju and trust us, you want to come on this adventure.”

The movie focuses on a young woman’s love for her family and how this love reunites her family and ends old feuds.

The film features returning cast members Bisola Aiyeola, Sophie Alakija, Kunle Remi, MC Lively, Bimbo Ademoye, Chris Iheuwa and Timini Egbuson as well as newcomers Don Jazzy, DJ Big N, Ben Lugo, Sophia Augustine and Lilo Aderogba.

Finding a Kuju is produced by Biodun Stephen and coproduced by Bisola Aiyeola and Winnie Okpapi. The premiere date has yet to be announced.

Introducing the Kujus is distributed by Film One Entertainment and debuted on Amazon Prime Video last month.

Ndani Real Talk returns for fifth run

Ndani TV’s talkshow Ndani Real Talk is coming back for a fifth season, with the new episodes debuting on the Nigerian webcaster’s YouTube channel this week.

The show, hosted by Nigerian actor Bisola Aiyeola, features real people sharing their opinions on social issues. It also addresses the everyday lives of Africans living on the continent and further afield.

“Ndani Real Talk is coming back for a fifth season and the amazing Bisola Aiyeola is your host,” stated the channel on Instagram.

The show will premiere on January 20 and new episodes will go live on the channel every Thursday at noon.

Ndani TV is owned by Lagos-based multinational financial services group GTBank and showcases the best of African art, fashion, film, business and sports. It was launched in 2012 and has so far clocked up more than 100 million views and has over 440,000 subscribers.

AMVCA winners unveiled

The sixth edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCAs) was hosted on Saturday evening at the Eko Hotels & Suites in Lagos.

Media personalities and movie stars from across the continent were present at the ceremony, dressed up and ready to have some fun.

The AMVCAs had some 120 nominations in 27 categories. These included Best Short Film/Online Video, Best Movie East Africa, Best Overall Movie and Best Television Series. Other special awards were the Trailblazer Award and Industry Merit Award.

The Best Television Series award was taken by This Is It, beating four other nominees that included Gina & Friends, Professor Johnbull, Papa Ajasco Reloaded and Relatives.

Meanwhile, the winner of the best documentary award was Dennis Wanjohi for his film The Flesh Business. Other nominees were Nightfall in Lagos (James Amuta), God’s Wives (Bolanle Olukanni), Styles Defunct by Ayaworanho3d (Aderemi Davies) and Calabar Carnival: What the People Think (Oghenefego Ofili).

Actress and former Big Brother Naija housemate Bisola Aiyeola also won the AMVCA Trailblazer Award, not to mention a car from pay TV group MultiChoice, for her role in the industry.

Renowned filmmaker and producer Tunde Kelani (Arugba, Life in Slow Motion, Dazzling Mirage) was honoured with the Industry Merit Award.

The AMVCAs had its inaugural edition in 2013 and has gone on to become the biggest annual award ceremony celebrating professionals in the film and TV industry in Africa.
