Biodun Stephen films set for cinemas

Nollywood romantic film Big Love and murder-mystery movie Hotel Labamba, both produced by Nigerian filmmaker Biodun Stephen, will be released in cinemas over the next five weeks.

Big Love will hit the big screen in Nigeria on June 28, while Hotel Labamba is set to premiere on July 28.

Big Love follows two young and ambitious individuals who find themselves deeply entwined in a passionate love affair after crossing paths at a graduate training camp. However, their relationship faces imminent jeopardy as a colossal secret threatens to unravel everything they hold dear.

Produced by Lagos-based The Weddding Party producer Inkblot Productions, the film stars Bimbo Ademoye, Timini Egbuson, Teniola Aladese, Shaffy Bello and Kalu Ikeagwu.

Stephen said: “I wrote the sweetest love story. It’s called Big Love. I and the amazing Inkblot Productions team are truly honoured to share this beautiful story of love with you guys come June 28… I am certain you will be all warm fuzzy when you see this.”

Hotel Labamba, meanwhile, follows the mysterious murder of a popular Instagram influencer in the titular hotel. Created by Stephen alongside Laide Daramola, its cast includes Adedimeji Lateef, Bimbo Ademoye, Blessing Jessica and Bolaji Ogunmola.

“Hotel Lambaba stands out in all aspects and everyone needs to look forward to it. I am equally very excited about it and for everyone to see the magic we’ve made,” Stephen said.

Finding a Kuju heading to big screen

Introducing the Kujus 2: Finding a Kuju

The sequel to 2020 Nigerian comedy-drama movie Introducing the Kujus is set to premiere soon.

Introducing the Kujus 2: Finding a Kuju’s production company TMPL Motion Pictures said on Instagram: “Hallo fam, No, this isn’t the set of your favourite 90s band – it’s the award-winning Kuju clan like you’ve never seen them before. They’re back, bigger and with much more drama than ever! This time we’re Finding a Kuju and trust us, you want to come on this adventure.”

The movie focuses on a young woman’s love for her family and how this love reunites her family and ends old feuds.

The film features returning cast members Bisola Aiyeola, Sophie Alakija, Kunle Remi, MC Lively, Bimbo Ademoye, Chris Iheuwa and Timini Egbuson as well as newcomers Don Jazzy, DJ Big N, Ben Lugo, Sophia Augustine and Lilo Aderogba.

Finding a Kuju is produced by Biodun Stephen and coproduced by Bisola Aiyeola and Winnie Okpapi. The premiere date has yet to be announced.

Introducing the Kujus is distributed by Film One Entertainment and debuted on Amazon Prime Video last month.

Strangers takes IIFAs gold award

Strangers, a new movie directed by Nollywood filmmaker Biodun Stephen, has won the gold award for directing at the International Independent Film Awards (IIFAs) in the US.

The awards are dedicated to showcasing and celebrating the many talented independent filmmakers and artist from around the world who share their visions in a powerful, creative and entertaining way.

Strangers follows the story of a young boy in a remote village and battling a life-ending disease. His life changes forever when people he has never met before show up.

The film stars Lateef Adedimeji, Bimbo Oshin, Bolaji Ogunmola, Debbie Felix, Femi Adebayo, Ndamo Damarise, Chris Iheuwa, Jide Kosoko, Bimbo Akintola, Mide Glover and Nonso Odogwu.

Produced by Inspaya Productions, executive produced by Banji Adesanmi and distributed by Genesis Pictures, the movie is also set to be released in cinemas on April 29.

“Strangers movie bagging awards even before the release date. You best believe this movie is going to be a bang,” the production company said on Instagram.

Nollywood movies line up for release

The Ghost & the Tout Too

A number of Nollywood movies will premiere in cinemas in the months to come, including The Ghost & the Tout Too (September 10), Fool’s Day (September 24) and The Progressive Tailors Club (October 29).

The Ghost & the Tout Too is a movie by Toyin Abraham Ajeyemi that tells the story of a young woman who grew up in a ghetto and meets a ghost after an unfortunate incident. It is the sequel to 2018 film The Ghost & the Tout.

The movie stars Toyin Abraham, Mercy Johnson, Osas Ighodaro, Adedimeji Lateef and Ini Edo. Abraham announced the news of the release on Instagram.

Fool’s Day, meanwhile, is directed by Tunde Olaoye and produced by Nigerian director and filmmaker Olufemi Oke, who took to Instagram to say: “One location, one-day family chaos! So much loud, so much crazy. You don’t want to miss this I promise you.”

The film stars Broda Shaggy, Tina Mba, Omowumi Dada, Tunji Sotimirin, Iyabo Ojo and Michael Okoli.

Fool’s Day

Lastly, The Progressive Tailors Club is a satire about community politics produced by Anthill Studios, directed by Biodun Stephen and executive produced by Nigerian filmmaker Niyi Akinmolayan. The cast includes Rachael Oniga, Adedimeji Lateef, Bolaji Ogunmola, Uzor Arukwe and Blessing Jessica Obasi.

Picture Perfect set for TV spin-off

Romantic comedy film Picture Perfect: Raising Jobestina is coming back to screens as a television series.

Bolanle Ninalowo and Mary Njoku

The TV spin-off from the movie, which was released in 2017, will feature original characters from the film and is a Shutterspeed project for Rok Studios.

The series follows the story of Jobe (Bolanle Ninalowo) and Kumbi (Mary Njoku), a fashion designer, who start an unlikely relationship that leads to the birth of a daughter, Jobestina.

Produced by Biodun Stephen, the series also features Nollywood actors Nkechi Blessing, Yvonne Jegede, Fausat Balogun, Karen Spikes and Blessing Jessica Obasi.

Although the release date for the series has not been announced, Stephen revealed on his Instagram page that seasons one and two will be released soon, while S3-4 are in the works.
