Smart Money Tribe coming to TV

The series will comprise 13 episodes

A financial help book that shares the experiences of five young women in Nigeria is being adapted into a TV series set to premiere in September on Africa Magic.

The Smart Money Tribe: An African Woman’s Guide to Making Bank, was written by Arese Ugwu. It came soon after Ugwu’s previous bestseller, The Smart Money Woman.

The 13×30′ drama adaptation is being executive produced by the author, directed by Bunmi Ajakaiye and coproduced by Kemi Lala Akindoju, Akintunde ‘Marine’ Marinho and Arcadia TV Africa

The show is described as a thought-provoking exploration of African millennials’ relationship with personal finance in contemporary Nigeria and how it affects their dating and personal relationships.

It stars Nollywood actors including Osas Ighodaro (Merry Men, Bling Lagosians), Toni Tones (King Of Boys), Ini Dima-Okojie (Sylvia, Who’s the Boss), Lala Akindoju (Your Excellency, Fine) and Eby Eno (Last Days).

Netflix picks up Smart Money Woman show

Smart Money Woman

Smart Money Woman, the television series adaptation of the 2016 financial self-help book of the same name by Arese Ugwu, will debut on Netflix on September 16.

The series premiered on MultiChoice channel Africa Magic Showcase a year ago.

“Our stellar cast, we did it. 10 days to go, who’s counting?” said the Smart Money crew on Instagram.

The 13-episode series highlights the experiences, sacrifices, struggles and vigour of African women as they carry out their day-to-day activities despite gender inequality.

Ugwu added on Instagram: “It still blows my mind that this all started with a book I wrote in my pajamas!!!! And it’s even more incredible that you all watched it unfold from publishing the book, going on a pan-African book tour, the process of converting it into a TV series… I’m so grateful guys… thank you for riding with me…. WE have a Netflix show!!!!!! Cheers to everyone that worked on this with me.”

Actor Ini Dima-Okojie added: “I can never forget how I felt the first time I read The Smart Money Woman, and then a year later I was cast as Tami and now it’s available for the world to watch on Netflix.”

The series is directed by Bunmi Ajakaiye, coproduced by Kemi Lala Akindoju, Akin Marinho and Arcadia TV Africa and also stars Osas Ighodaro, Toni Tones, Eby Eno, Eso Okolocha, Timini Egbuson, Karibi Fubara, Tope Tedela, Seun Ajayi and Temisan Emmanuel.

The Bridge returns to TV

Nigerian web series The Bridge is set to return to screens tomorrow.

The show, produced by BusinessDay Media, will start airing weekly from September 13.

The series consists of 13 episodes and will air on both Silverbird Television, Business Day Television and the YouTube channel of BusinessDay partner FCMB Group.

Anchoring the show will be Arese Ugwu, author of The Smart Money Woman, and other guest speakers are Mai Atafo, creative director of Nigerian fashion brand Mai Atafo; Adebola Williams, co-founder of Red Media and Statecraft; as well as other successful business owners.

Viewers will be able to take part in practice lessons. The aim of the show is to improve financial literacy among young people and help them build successful businesses.
