Delayed TStv Africa ‘back on track’

Nigerian pay TV operator TStv Africa, which was unveiled in October last year but was put on hiatus, has resumed full operations and will this month start to sell decoders nationwide.

The company said decoder sales will begin on November 28 and the platform will have more than 72 television channels. These include TVC News, BBC World News, TravelXP, A1 Kids and Grande Bolly. Other include AIT, Aljazeera, NTA, CGTN and Wap TV

TStv Africa in a statement said: “Dear Nigerians, we wish to immensely thank you for standing by us all through our trying times and wish to confirm to you that TStv Africa is now stable in operation.

“Sequel to this, nationwide sales of decoder and accessories will effectively commence from 28th November, 2018 with access to over 72 TV channels. Please feel free to walk into any nearby TStv Africa retail outlet to pick up your decoders and accessories. We appreciate you for standing by us.”

As well as channels in the genres of music, news, religion, lifestyle, fashion, health and kids, TStv offers complimentary internet services, video calls and other features 9n a bouquet that is intended to be affordable to Nigerians.

MyTV adds Blue Ant channels

Blue Ant Media, a Canada-based international content producer, distributor and channel operator, is expanding its distribution and production in the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) markets.

In a bid to reach the Nigerian audience, Blue Ant has partnered with local pay TV platform MyTV to broadcast its TV channels Love Nature and ZooMoo. Together they air 500 hours of original content focused on wildlife footage, puppetry and animation.

Chiara McKee, newly appointed VP of EMEA for Blue Ant’s kids and global networks division, will oversee the channel distribution sales, operations and marketing across EMEA.

According to MyTV, the two additional channels are sure to keep its viewers entertained. “MyTV takes pride in announcing the addition of ZooMoo to its channel line-up,” it said.

“ZooMoo is a collaboration between some of the world’s foremost wildlife filmmakers, early childhood educationalists and technology developers. Its programming engages and entertains children with the wonders of animals, to stimulate and develop their innate emotional connection with the natural world.”

MyTV is a pay TV network featuring all-round entertainment with more than 20 channels, including: Wazobia TV, Galaxy TV, Channels TV, Aljazeera and KBS World.

TV veteran Okhai to stand for president

Victor Okhai, veteran journalist, producer and filmmaker, has confirmed he will be standing in Nigeria’s 2019 presidential elections.

Okhai will be contesting the 2019 presidential elections as a candidate of the Youth Democratic Party, with the motto Enough is Enough.

Okhai has been in the broadcast industry for more than three decades. He is a freelance journalist for TV networks including the BBC, Aljazeera, CNN, TVC and STV and is also co-founder of the Directors’ Guild of Nigeria and director of the International Film & Broadcast Academy in Lagos.

He graduated from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, where he gained a degree in mass communications and a master’s degree in PR. He later went on to study in several other tertiary institutions, obtaining certificates from the School of Media & Communication, Pan-Atlantic University; National Film & Television Institute; University of Lagos; and Goethe Institut, among others.

He has been a partner at the Goethe Institut, Lagos since 1988 and has worked with the institute to host the International Short Film Festival in Nigeria, the first in the country and sub-Saharan Africa.

The 51-year-old has been very passionate about the role of politics and the creative industry in Nigeria, which led to him addressing these issues in several presentations.

In 2007, he delivered a speech titled The Role of Art, Film and Politics in Nigeria at the German embassy. In 2008, he presented a paper titled Emerging Talents – Nollywood and the New Wave African Cinema.
