History Channel Africa, part of A+E Networks Africa, is set to debut new show Great African Crimes in October, hot on the heels of last week’s premiere of Great African Mysteries S2.
Hosted by Mandy Wiener, Great African Crimes will reveal the details behind some of South Africa’s most gripping crimes. This one-off special will explore three dramatic cases that left South Africa stunned: the infamous crimes of poisoner Daisy de Melker, the so-called Sea Cottage incident and the Krugersdorp bank robbery.
The title comes soon after the debut last week of the second season of Great African Mysteries, which delves into the secrets of Africa’s past, exploring significant discoveries such as Homo naledi, an extinct species of archaic human discovered in 2013, and the legendary Kruger Millions treasure hunt in South Africa. Hosted by John Robbie, the show takes viewers on an exhilarating journey through Africa’s most intriguing and lesser-known mysteries.
Produced by Randburg-based Clive Morris Productions (CMP), Great African Crimes will debut on October 22 on History Africa via MultiChoice’s digital satellite TV platform DStv. CMP is also behind Great African Mysteries and the earlier travel show Great African Escapes.
Wiener said: “I’m so excited to be involved in this project and to tell these stories. The team from Clive Morris Productions was brilliant to work with and have put together such well-researched episodes. Thank you to [CMP senior producer] Sian Clark for convincing me to do this.”
