Singer Tiwa Savage cast in Water & Garri
Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage is set to take the lead role in feature film Water & Garri.
Shot in the city of Cape Coast, Ghana, the film tells the story of Aisha (Savage), a successful fashion designer in the US who returns to her native land after 10 years following a family bereavement.
As she reconnects with family, old friends and her past love, she must learn to live with her scars and confront the guilt she left behind.
It is produced by Unbound Studios and JM Films, directed by Meji Alabi, written by Comfort Emmanuel and executive produced by Savage (Everything Savage) who wrote and performed the film’s original soundtrack.
Other casts include Mike Afolarin, Jemima Osunde and Andrew Bunting.
“This project was a complete labour of love that has been a dream of mine for a number of years. Performing as Aisha allowed me to be totally vulnerable and pushed me to express myself in a way that I’ve never done before. It was an honour to share my debut as an actress with Meji whilst filming on the African continent with a cast and crew that I have immense admiration and respect for. I’m excited for the world to see this film,” said Savage.
Alabi added: “Excited to announce my first feature film, Water & Garri, starring Tiwa Savage in her debut lead role. Working with Savage and the team was an incredible experience. This film has been perfect progression of our creative growth and shared vision of exploring boundaries. It is such an exciting story with an amazing cast.”
