This Body Works for Me

MultiChoice-owned African streamer Showmax is lining up a second season of adult-themed reality series This Body Works for Me next month.

The show explores the lives of seven women in the South African adult entertainment industry, letting viewers in on their family dynamics, relationships, hustles and careers.

This new season teases a mix of fun, drama, sisterhood, sexiness and new faces. Returning participants include Bubbly, Gina, Primadonna and Wandi, while newcomers include Diamond, Dione Xanthe and Lebo.

This Body Works For Me is produced by Cape Town prodco POP24 and S2 will air on Showmax from August 22.

The series is “a positive platform for women who are in the sex work industry. It humanises us and shows people that we are just like them,” said Dione, an adult digital content creator from Bloemfontein.

“We are often stigmatised and shunned so shows like this help put the message across about who we are as people and individuals to the world. I have been through a lot and I have survived a lot of things, so I think people will be inspired by my journey, especially young women who are going through something similar.”

Diamond, a mother and stripper from Alexandra in Johannesburg, added: “I joined season two because I want people to see the truth about being a stripper. It is not just what you see at face value; we are real people, with real emotions and people who depend on us. We go through a lot. It is not an easy job. It is a craft that we work hard to perfect and I think people do not realise that. My biggest goal is to shed light on this industry and – maybe, hopefully – that might help someone else.”

Lebo, from Tembisa, added: “As a trans woman, I am already ‘othered,’ so add the fact that I am also a sex worker, it makes it way harder. My aim for being on This Body Works For Me is to show people the trans experience. We all come in different shapes and sizes. No story is the same; every story is unique and every story deserves a platform. I hope to teach and make it easier for those who are coming after me.”
