Shaibu Husseini named NFVCB DG
The president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu has appointed Shaibu Husseini as the new director general of the National Film & Video Censors Board.
Husseini has a PhD in mass communication from the University of Lagos; he is an alumnus of the United States International Visitors Leadership Programme and the AIG-Public Leaders Programme of the Blavtanik School of Governance at the University of Oxford. He has also served as a jury and board member on local and international committees on festivals and awards including the Mainframe Film Institute run by filmmaker Tunde Kelani.
Shaibu is currently a senior teaching and research fellow at the mass communication department of the University of Lagos and he was a former member of the Nigeria Official Selection Committee (NOSC) charged with the responsibility of deciding Nigeria’s entry for the Best International Film category of the Oscars.
The president also approved the appointment of other executive officers under the Federal Ministry of Art, Culture and Creative Economy. They include Tola Akerele (named director-general, National Theatre), Obi Asika (director-general, National Council for Arts & Culture), Ali Nuhu (MD, Nigerian Film Corporation), Aisha Adamu Augie (director-general, Centre for Black & African Arts and Culture) and Otunba Biodun Ajiboye (director-general, National Institute for Cultural Orientation).
President Tinubu has directed the appointed individuals to carry out their responsibilities in adherence to the utmost standards of professionalism, diligence and patriotism. The aim is to enhance the vibrancy and resilience of the creative sector.
