SABC Breaking Down Borders in new show
South African pubcaster SABC 1 has ordered a travelogue series fronted by dancer and choreographer Paul Modjadji.
Breaking Down Borders Africa follows Modjadji as he travels to 10 African countries, including Zambia, Namibia, Tanzania, Kenya, Nigeria and Senegal, where he explores the continent’s rich youth and dance culture.
On the way, Modjadji and his team visit some of Africa’s most iconic landmarks and sites. The team includes tour coordinator and manager Nthabiseng Modjadji, filmmaker Sibusiso Mahlangu, and filmmaker, photographer and dancer Ginger Wensky.
The documentary takes viewers inside the lives of some of Africa’s most inspiring change-makers, including BBC Top 100 inspirational women winner Naomi Mwaura, African Union official Lorato Modongo, and Plot Makho, founder of Zimbabwe arts festival Jibilika.
Modjadji directs the 14-part series, which is produced by Wandle Molebatsi and debuts on SABC 1 next week. Sibusiso Mahlangu is director of photography. The show will culminate with a two-part reunion hosted by Minnie Dlamini.
Molebatsi said: “The viewer is taken on a journey that depicts the challenges, and excitement, of travelling our continent. Each country offers a window into a people, a country and diverse experiences, landscapes and cultures.”
Modjadji added: “Africa is an endlessly resourceful place and is poised to come into its own. The journey revealed an unmatched generosity of spirit. Our interactions brought into sharp focus just how creative us Africans can be.”
