The Real Housewives of Johannesburg

The Johannesburg-set version of NBCUniversal’s Real Housewives franchise is returning from a three-year hiatus for a third season on pay TV network M-Net’s 1Magic channel from May 19.

The Real Housewives of Johannesburg marked the first South African remake of NBCUniversal Formats’ hit The Real Housewives when it launched in 2018, with international versions now also available in the South African cities of Durban, Pretoria, Gqeberha and Cape Town. The series is produced by Sonia Mbele Films.

The third season of The Real Housewives of Johannesburg welcomes four new faces into the mix: wild-spirited millionaire’s wife Keabetswe Marema, self-made millionaire and former TV producer Thobekile Mdlalose, serial entrepreneur Nicole Watson-Ngubane and YouTuber Mamus Koka, along with the return of Lethabo ‘LeJoy’ Mathatho and Lebo ‘Jojo’ Mokoena from season two.

As well as being adapted in various South African cities, the Real Housewives format has been produced in Nairobi, Lagos and Abuja. The format started in the US on NBCUniversal-owned cable channel Bravo and is distributed worldwide by NBCUniversal Formats, which is part of Universal International Studios.

“The Real Housewives continues to prove itself a formidable format primed for localisation and we’re delighted to partner with M-Net once again to celebrate the rich and vibrant culture that Johannesburg has to offer,” said Ana Langenberg, senior VP of format sales & production at NBCUniversal Formats.
