Award-winning South African TV host and radio presenter Carol Ofori is joining the cast of the animated series Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire.
Slated to debut globally on July 5 on streamer Disney+, the series explores Africa’s history and culture from a variety of perspectives, featuring stories from Egypt, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Uganda and Zimbabwe. It will take viewers on a journey into Africa’s future and present visions of the continent that have never been seen.
Ofori said on Instagram: “Exciting news! A dream come true! I will be part of this groundbreaking animation on Disney+ and I’m still pinching myself! Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire is coming July to Disney+ and I play a lead character called Mkhuzi. I am very excited to be a part of this Disney+ production.
“The fact that talent from the whole African continent is involved makes me so proud. I’ve always wanted to create content for Africans, African children and for the world to consume our content as Africans so I am so happy to be contributing even more in this amazing animation series and I hope it’s the first of many exciting projects from Disney+ that shines a light on Africa and its talent.”
The series is executive produced by Peter Ramsey, Tendayi Nyeke, and Anthony Silverston, and produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios and South Africa-based Triggerfish Animation Studios.
It features a cast from across the globe, including the voices of Tyson Ngubeni, Florence Kasumba, Kehinde Bankole, Pearl Thusi, Hakeem Kae-Kazim, Sheila Munyiva, Stycie Waweru and Candice Modiselle.
Kizazi Moto is derived from the Swahili phrase ‘kizazi cha moto,’ which means ‘fire generation,’ capturing the passion, innovation and excitement of this new cohort of African filmmakers.
