Ninth AMVCAs reveal winners

The ninth edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCAs) took place recently at the Eko Hotel & Suites in Lagos.

The event recognised and celebrated the achievements of Nollywood stars in various categories, including Best Actor in a Drama, Best Short Film, Best Art Director, Best Documentary, Best Indigenous-Language Movie, Best Movie East Africa, Multichoice Talent Factory, Best Africa Magic Original Drama Series, Best Africa Magic Original Comedy Series, Best Original Telenovela and Best Unscripted Original.

Action thriller Brotherhood, from Nigerian film and TV production company Greoh Studios, won three gongs: Best Actor in a Drama, Best Art Director and Best Director.

Drama series Aníkúlápó took home awards in the categories of Best Overall Movie, Best Sound Track, and Best Indigenous Language – Yoruba.

Best Actress in a Comedy was presented to Bimbo Ademoye for her role in Selina, while Broda Shaggi was named Best Actor in a Comedy.

Osas Ighodaro picked up the prize for Best Actress in a Drama (Man of God), while Efe Irele won the award for Best Supporting Actress in a Series, for her work in Four Four Forty Four.

Other awards include Best Television Series, which went to Crime & Justice, Best Original Telenovela (Mpali), Best Original Drama Series (Ricordi), Best Original Comedy Series (Njoro Wa Uba) and Best Unscripted Original (King Bugar).

Patience Ozokwor was presented with the 2023 Industry Merit Award, while Angel Unigwe received the Trailblazer Award.

The ninth AMVCAs was sponsored by Amstel Malta and Zagg Energy Drink in association with Africa Magic and Multichoice.
