Netflix visits Nworah’s Shanty Town
Global streamer Netflix is set to premiere a Nigerian crime thriller called Shanty Town this month.

The series is produced by Chichi Nworah, CEO of Lekki-based prodco Giant Creative Media. Nworah is the producer of Nigerian movies such as So In Love, Kala & Jamal and Jacob’s Mansion, as well as TV series Uncomplicated.
The new six-part series is written by Xavier Ighorodje and Donald Tombia and its cast includes Ini Edo, Chidi Mokeme, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Mercy Eke and Shaffy Bello.
Shanty Town tells the story of a group of courtesans who attempt to escape the grasp of a notorious kingpin, but political corruption and blood ties make freedom a near-impossible goal.
Nworah said: “Shanty Town is a crime thriller, but it’s also a story told to call attention to the menace of society’s dark underbelly. Poverty, mental slavery and corruption run deep in society and the film is a tool we can use to talk about the damages these are causing. We need society to know crime does not pay.”
The show makes its debut on January 20.
