Nigeria’s minister of information and culture, Lai Mohammed, revealed the news at a meeting in Lagos with Filmic Group, a platform for creative industry practitioners such as content producers and directors.

The reforms were approved by President Muhammadu Buhari and are aimed at further strengthening the NBC’s regulatory role and improving the creative industry, unlocking its potential for employment generation and wealth creation.

According to Mohammed, the process for the amendment of the NBC Act had begun and an executive bill would be sent to the National Assembly for legislative action.

On November 19, the NBC reforms implementation committee handed its report to the minister with recommendations geared towards reinforcing the regulatory role of the commission and unlocking the creative talents of Nigerians by ending monopoly and anti-competition in the broadcast industry.
