MTV Shuga returns for fifth season

Nigerian drama series MTV Shuga Naija is coming back for a fifth season.

The drama shines a light on social issues such as toxic masculinity, the aftermath of a Covid-19 death, gender-based violence and a relationship complicated by HIV, according to the producers.

The cast includes Adesua Etomi-Wellington, Sharon Jatto, Tomiwa Tegbe, Genoneva Umeh and BBTitans’ Kanaga Emmanuel Eme.

“A brand-new season of MTV Shuga Naija is about to take over your screens: new cast, new stories, 100% authentic vibes! Get ready for a Shuga Naija experience like none other!” stated the show’s producers.

MTV Shuga Naija S5 will premiere on May 21 on MTV Base Channel 322 and BET Africa Channel 129.

The show first aired in November 2009 on MTV Base as part of an initiative dubbed MTV Staying Alive Ignite!, a multi-channel campaign focused on positive sexual health messaging for people ages 16-25.
