Multichoice-owned channel MNet in South Africa has commissioned a crime thriller series starring Natalie Dormer (Game of Thrones) called White Lies.

The eight-parter is a coproduction between MNet, South African prodco Quizzical Pictures and Fremantle, which is also handling distribution.

Dormer plays a journalist who investigates the murder of her estranged brother in Cape Town but finds herself at loggerheads with a veteran detective played by Brendon Daniels (Four Corners).

Filming is set to begin in South Africa next week, with Dormer, Julie Hodge and creator Darrel Bristow-Bovey as executive producers.

“International coproductions are an exciting strategy that MNet has explored in recent years,” said Nomsa Philiso, CEO general entertainment at MultiChoice Group. “We’re pleased to continue exploring new, more global ways of telling our stories to a large audience.”
