M-Net to serve up Richard Williams doc
South Africa’s M-Net is among the international broadcasters to have acquired feature documentary On the Line: The Richard Williams Story.
The film details the life, career and impact of Richard Williams – the father and coach of tennis champions Venus and Serena Williams.
Home video footage and interviews with tennis greats like Billie Jean King and Pam Shriver retrace the Williams sisters’ ascent to the top of the game, despite racial oppression and unconscious bias.
Others to have picked up the doc include Sky in the UK and Italy, Canal+ in France, Paramount+ in Australia, and New Zealand’s TVNZ.
The sales, secured by distributor Fremantle, come after the film’s UK premiere at Sheffield DocFest last month.
On the Line: The Richard Williams Story is produced by ChaVam, High Frequency Entertainment, Foundation 360, Bright West Entertainment and McClave Lumber Company. Stuart McClave is the director.
“We are delighted to team up with our esteemed broadcaster partners to share the remarkable story of Richard Williams, in his own words,” said Jens Richter, CEO of commercial and international at Fremantle.
“Mr Williams granted Stuart McClave and his team unparalleled access and insight to allow them to create an unmissable documentary that will leave audiences across the globe feeling truly inspired.”
