M-Net brings back Fremantle thriller Reyka
South African broadcaster M-Net has renewed Fremantle’s mystery crime thriller Reyka for a second season.
The series, from writer and creator Rohan Dickson, will see South African-born actress Kim Engelbrecht and British actor Iain Glen return to their roles and will premiere on M-Net in late 2023 with production kicking off in early January next year.
Season one of the English-language drama follows the story of Reyka (Engelbrecht), a crime profiler hunting an elusive serial killer in KwaZulu-Natal’s sugarcane fields while facing her past traumas.
The series is an international coproduction between M-Net and Fremantle, which also handles global distribution. The renewal was announced today at Content London.
The cast will also include Nokuthula Ledwaba, Anna-Mart van der Merwe, Gerald Steyn, Lemohang Tsipa and Samkelo Ndlovu.
The series is jointly produced by Serena Cullen for Serena Cullen Productions (Lady Chatterley’s Lover, The Larkins) in the UK and Harriet Gavshon for Quizzical Pictures in South Africa. Executive producers are Serena Cullen, Harriet Gavshon and Rohan Dickson. Nomsa Philiso and Jan du Plessis executive produce for M-Net and Julie Hodge for Fremantle.
