Lupita Nyong’o in Black Panther

Oscar-winning Black Panther star Lupita Nyong’o will soon launch her documentary named Warrior Women (1×60’) on Paramount-owned American pay TV channel Smithsonian.

The documentary was originally commissioned by UK broadcaster Channel 4 and follows Nyong’o as she journeys across Benin, West Africa to uncover the remarkable truth behind the women known as the Agoji – named Amazons by Europeans – who helped to inspire the Dora Milaje of Marvel’s film Black Panther.

The 2019 show is produced by Sandstone Global for Channel 4 and is distributed worldwide by UK-based Cineflix Rights.

“I traveled to Benin to make a documentary about the warrior women of the Dahomey Kingdom. They are arguably the world’s greatest female army and helped inspire Black Panther’s Dora Milaje. Watch Warrior Women when it premieres in the US on Smithsonian Channel on March 28 at 8pm ET/PT as part of their women’s history month programming,” she said on Instagram.
