Ladima seeks animation training applicants

Applications are now open for free animation training for East African women organised by African non-profit organisation The Ladima Foundation, in partnership with Culture & Development East Africa (CDEA) and the Kwetu International Animation Film Festival (KIAFF).

The 10-day animation workshop, tagged Let Your Voices Roar, will take place from January 17 to 27, 2022 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and will enable East African women to explore the theme of home and belonging, and how animation can be used to help one’s voice be heard, within and beyond the borders of their communities.

Only women residing in Tanzania, Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi and Uganda are eligible. Click here to apply.

The initiative will be facilitated by Comfort Arthur, the award-winning Ghanaian animator, illustrator, visual artist and festival director for FupiToons. Arthur’s animated short film Black Barbie is an international hit that has been screened at more than 50 film festivals around the world, earning multiple awards and critical acclaim.

Also on offer will be the Ladima & African Animation Network incubation programme for participants who complete the training with reasonable proficiency while engaging in a rigorous in-service training for a period of six months in their country of origin with various animation partners.

Participants will be selected for specialisation and paired with a small or medium-sized enterprise and/or studio partner for two years, while strategic partnerships will be built with top African studios from across the spectrum of digital content production.

Applications will close on October 23, 2021 and participants will be notified in writing if they have been accepted by November 17.
