Through the partnership, Kwesé Sports will distribute content from ESL, which is owned by Swedish media giant Modern Times Group (MTG), and organise events in its name throughout Africa. The deal reaffirms ESL’s mission to expand into other continents and to make eSports accessible to people across the world.

The agreement means African eSports fans will get the chance to experience tournaments both live and online.

Econet Media CEO Joseph Hundah said: “We have the commitment to transform their platform to an eSports hub in the continent. This new deal will make the young African market even more popular, and we are optimistic about [realising] the entire advantage the partnership promises to bring.”

ESL MD and MTG eSports head Malte Barth said Kwesé represented an ideal partner as its ambitions aligned with ESL’s.

“Kwesé has always concentrated on the eSports lovers among their customers as well as the interaction between them and the eSports population in Africa, especially in South Africa,” he added.
