Kizazi Moto toon picks up award

African futuristic animated shortform series Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire has won an international award.
The sci-fi anthology series, commissioned by Disney+ and comprising 10 films each 10 minutes long directed by African animators, was named best animated series at the Kidscreen Summit 2024 awards in San Diego.
The series was coproduced by Walt Disney Animation Studios, Blink Industries and Triggerfish Animation Studios, based in South Africa.
“We won a 2024 Kidscreen award for best animated series! Congratulations to the incomparable team of directors, cast and artists that made this happen. African talent is worth investing in,” said Triggerfish in a statement.
African animators were out in force at the event this week, including Anthony Silverston, creative director of Triggerfish; Mbuotidem Johnson, CEO of Lagos-based Basement Animation; Nompi Vilakazi, producer at Buthano Pictures of South Africa; and Isaac Mogajane, producer at Diprente Films of South Africa.
