Kasumba, Nyong’o in Black Panther 2
Ugandan-born German actor Florence Kasumba has been named among the cast of Black Panther sequel Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, with Kenyan-Mexican star Lupita Nyong’o reprising her role from the first film.
Following on from the 2018 Marvel Studios hit, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever centres on the leaders of the fictional kingdom of Wakanda as they fight to protect their nation from intervening world powers in the wake of King T’Challa’s death.
The film’s future had looked uncertain after Chadwick Boseman, who starred as King T’Challa/the Black Panther in the first movie, died from cancer in 2020.
“It feels monumental to be back in Black Panther and to be ready to invite you guys back to Wakanda. The universe of Wakanda is expanding and you guys have a lot to look forward to,” said Nyong’o.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is produced by Marvel Studios, distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, and directed by Ryan Coogler, who co-wrote the screenplay with Joe Robert Cole. It is set to be released in the US on November 11 this year.
