Eighty-one contestants were selected to compete out of more than 11,000 applicants from private and public secondary schools.
This competition is mainly for students in SS2 aged between 14 and 17 and is aimed at promoting and rewarding the study of science, technology, engineering and mathematics among senior secondary school students across Africa.
Mitchell Elegbe, group MD at Interswitch, said: “The Interswitch SPAK is a huge investment by Interswitch and we are very passionate about it. With this project, we are breaking boundaries, we are going outside the box, we are equipping African youths with the capacity to solve problems.
“The TV quizshow, which will debut on Saturday October 27, promises to be very interesting as the students will be expected to collaborate to provide solutions to social problems and at the same time compete for the title of Best Science Student in Nigeria. I am looking forward to it and urge Nigerians to tune in.”
The first prize winner will be awarded N7.5m worth of scholarship in tertiary education spread over five years, while first and second runners-up also receive cash prizes in the form of scholarship.
There will also be an innovation challenge to further test the students.
