African Royale

Australia-based distributor Fred Media is bringing factual, reality, lifestyle, food and travel programming to the MipTV market in France this month, including a series acquired recently from The Africa Channel.

African Royale (6×30′) follows Her Imperial Highness Abimbola ‘Bim’ Fernandez, a wealthy heiress with Nigerian royal lineage, as she flees New York for LA, where she encounters toxic beauty standards, an unfamiliar dating scene and the culture of today’s black America.

Two reality series from New Zealand have also been added to the slate: Snow Crew (10×30′), produced by Stripe Media, which follows people who work on the ski slopes in Queenstown, the country’s most iconic winter playground; and East Coast Rising (4×30′) from Pango Productions, which follows a rugby team in a small, isolated community that hasn’t won a single game in eight years and tap ex-All Black Hosea Gear to turn their fortunes around.

Other titles Fred Media will launch at MipTV, held between April 17 and 19, include First on Scene (20×30′), produced by its parent company WTFN Entertainment; Planet Shapers (6×30′), from Meridian Green; 4 Ingredients: The Easiest Cooking Show Ever (6×30′), from Wild Bunch Media; and Big Appetite (5×30′) and The Curious Chef (5×30′), both from Tastemade.

Other Pango Productions titles on Fred Media’s Cannes slate are Carlos’ Reno Rescue (8×30′) and Piri’s Tiki Tour (63×30′). The former tracks renowned All Blacks Rugby star Carlos Spencer as he undertakes renovation projects for deserving New Zealanders, while the latter follows former professional rugby player and All Blacks star Piri Weepu as he indulges in his new-found passions – diving, hunting and fishing – in incredible locations around the country.

In total, Fred Media will launch almost 130 hours at the market, making this its largest-ever MipTV line-up.
