Nigerian movie Akudaaya, based on stories from Yoruba folklore, will be released in cinemas from August 4.

Distributed by Film One Entertainment and written, produced and directed by AMVCA nominee and comedian Olamide ‘Ark Bishop’ Akinmolayan, Akudaaya is the story of a man who is given a rare second chance to change his fate.

The drama – the title of which translates as The Wraith – is a reflection of the Yoruba worldview that recognises the interconnectedness of the living, the dead and the unborn. It further explores occurrences of the dead returning to life in unfamiliar places with new bodies.

Olamide said: “This August 4, something intriguing is coming to a cinema near you! A man, his fate and a rare second chance. What will he do with it? Anticipate!”

The movie’s cast include Sola Sobowale, Olumide Oworu, Razaq Owokoniran, Hafiz Oyetoro, Yomi Fash-Lanso and Bukunmi Oluwashina. It was produced by Labondy Entertainment and Akinmolayan’s Sweet Dews Productions.
