Federation’s Morning After wakes at MipTV
France’s Federation Studios is at MipTV in Cannes this week shopping The Morning After (8×30’), a comedy-drama series produced by Paradoxal and Both Worlds Pictures with Germany’s SWR–ARD FabFiction and Prime Video Africa.
The series will premiere in sub-Saharan Africa on Prime Video and in Germany on ARD’s SVoD service Mediatek. Federation is at MipTV looking to distribute the series into markets outside Germany and sub-Saharan Africa.
The Morning After stars British actor Amara Okereke (The Lost Lands, Red Rose) and a young South African ensemble cast including Gaosi Raditholo, Carmen Pretorius, Richard Gau, Tarryn Wyngaard and Danica Jones.
The show follows a British party girl who wakes up naked on a beach in Cape Town, South Africa, 6,000 miles from home and with all of her stuff missing. With the help of some locals, she plots revenge on whoever did this to her.
Created by Thierry Cassuto and Karen Jeynes, the series is directed by Cindy Lee (Girls of St Agnes, Desert Rose) and Karen Jeynes (Recipes for Love & Murder), with exec producers Rémy Jacquelin for Paradoxal and Thierry Cassuto, Karen Jeynes and Thato Cassuto for Both Worlds.
The Morning After is produced with the support of the South African Department of Trade, Industry & Competition, with French media finance outfit Natixis-Coficiné providing cash-flow finance. The series was filmed in Cape Town and the surrounding area.
Paradoxal is the Paris-based prodco launched in 2019 by former TF1 and Gaumont exec Jacquelin, while Both Worlds is the South African prodco behind shows including Recipes for Love & Murder and Puppet Nation.
