Emeka’s Money comes from Basement Animation

Emeka’s Money, the animated family film based on a book by Nigerian author Onyinye Ough, has been selected for the Silicon Valley African Film Festival (SVAFF).

The movie was produced via an agreement between Lagos toon studio Basement Animation, Nigerian NGO Step Up for Social Development & Empowerment (aka Step Up Nigeria) and the MacArthur Foundation (aka Mac Found).

The film aims to help children understand the impact of corruption upon Nigerian society and also to encourage a new generation of leaders to effect change in Africa.

The SVAFF is the only film festival in California that is exclusively focused on films made by African filmmakers. Its aim is to curate a world-class festival of African films and provide audience access to the richness, diversity and vitality of Africa’s creative expression.

It also seeks to promote cultural literacy by hosting post-screening dialogues so audiences can engage and interact with African filmmakers on issues of personal, local and global significance, and to promote idea exchange and collaborations between American and African film professionals.

Basement Animation is the Lagos studio behind shows including DownTown Lagos, Adefellas, l’Arbre à Palimpseste, Raga Shaga Mama and Tech Timi Out.
