Development platform seeks producers
The Great Lakes Creative Producers Lab, a project-development platform for creative producers from East and West Africa, is seeking talented African producers specialising in documentaries and fiction films.
The programme is intended to address some of the challenges that exist in the film industry ecosystem, including insufficient understanding around the role of creative producer.
Five producers will be selected from East Africa – Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda – for the documentary lab, while five fiction producers will be selected from West Africa – Benin, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Mali, Niger, Senegal and Togo.
The two-session programme will be held firstly in Nairobi from November 6 to 10 and then in Saint-Louis-du-Sénégal in April 2024, during the Saint Louis Docs Festival.
The first five-day film-development programme aims to broaden the professional networks and producing expertise of participants through a series of hands-on workshops and one-on-one sessions with local and international industry mentors.
The dual sessions will centre on production and financing. Discussion points will encompass project development, constructing an effective financing strategy, recommended methodologies, evaluating the pros and cons of coproduction, essential documentation needed for seeking international funding, devising distribution and sales approaches, and more.
Two of the participants in this workshop will be selected to participate in the 77th edition of the Cannes International Film Festival in May next year. The deadline for applications is September 1. Click here to apply.
