Côte Ouest renews Globo deal
Mediawan Africa-owned distributor Côte Ouest has renewed its partnership with Brazil’s Globo, through which the former will continue to distribute the latter’s telenovelas in Africa.
The agreement covers more than 50 English- and French-speaking African countries. Côte Ouest will also distribute Globo’s content in France, Belgium and Switzerland. Both Côte Ouest and Globo will be presenting their slate at MipAfrica next month.
The renewal includes releases such as Land of Desire and Rebirth, and drama classics such as The Favorite, The Clone, Terra Nostra and India – A Love Story.
“We’re very happy with this early renewal. It shows the commitment of Globo and Côte Ouest, which is one of our longest-standing partners, to bringing the best content to African countries,” said Fábio Mauro, content distribution and partnerships at Globo.
“These are strategic territories for us, with a demand for classic titles, which is one of Globo’s differentials. [Côte Ouest] will have a catalogue of more than 2,500 hours [from Globo] that can be distributed to OTT platforms.”
“Globo telenovelas bring so much freshness and diversity to our catalogue,” said Awoua Keita, head of acquisitions at Cote Ouest. “It’s thanks to their expertise that the concept of Afro-novelas has arisen.”
