Chieftain’s son stars in MTV’s Royal World
Global cabsat channel MTV International has unveiled a regal-themed reality show featuring the son of a Nigerian chieftain.
The Royal World will explore the lives of young royals and aristocrats from around the world, brought together in a UK country mansion. As well as Adeniyi Obafemi, the son of a Nigerian chief, participants include nobility from the UK, Russia and Austria, as well as a “royally connected” American.
The show is hosted by Archie Manners and will also feature Meghan Markle’s nephew, Tyler Dooley; the UK’s Baroness Jessica Heydel; Ireland’s Lady Camilla Beresford; party girl Zara Zoffany Farida Sassoon-Munns; and Marquess Maria Gabrilella Diana of Italy.
Produced by Endemol Shine Group-owned UK company Initial, the six-episode series was commissioned by Kerry Taylor, executive VP of youth and music and co-head of Viacom International Media Networks-owned MTV International, and Craig Orr, MTV International VP of commissioning and development. Orr will exec produce alongside Iestyn Barker for MTV International and Andrew Jackman for Initial.
This show aims to capture the reality of the lives of the high and mighty as they live together in the English countryside, bringing together a diverse cast with contrasting personalities. “It’s fun, regal and very loud,” said Obafemi.
Taylor added: “MTV has a deep-rooted history of shining a light on original characters and unique subcultures. The Royal World brings this to a whole new level. From shores around the globe to royal mansions, we celebrate great stories everywhere they are.”
Katy Manley, creative director of Initial, said the show would provide insight into a world that is “utterly closed to most of us.”
The Royal World will premiere on MTV on Wednesday November 7 at 22.00.
