CANEX Shorts calls out for filmmakers
The African Export Import Bank (Afreximbank)’s Creative Africa Nexus (CANEX) programme has announced a short-film competition and screening initiative called CANEX Shorts.
The scheme gives young filmmakers the opportunity to showcase their work for a chance to win a cash prize in either the best feature, best documentary or best animation categories and to meet with potential investors.
The selected films will be curated by the selection committee after which the jury will select 10 that will be screened during the Intra-African Trade Fair 2023 (IATF2023) in Egypt in November.
CANEX at IATF2023 will be held in Cairo from November 9 to 15. The event will be another milestone in Afreximbank’s implementation of the CANEX programme, a multi-faceted intervention aimed at supporting and developing Africa’s rapidly growing creative sector.
The event will see business conversations among creatives, policy makers, financial institutions, business and political leaders, development partners, thought leaders and the most powerful and respected names in the creative and cultural industries from across the continent and the diaspora.
It will also facilitate businesses, investments, collaborations, partnerships and inspiration among creatives across the value chain of diverse creative and cultural industry sectors, from film, music and fashion to culinary arts, sports, and visual arts.
Interested African filmmakers between the ages of 18 and 29 can participate by submitting their films, which must be no longer than five minutes, via entry service Filmfreeway. To see the criteria and to submit, click here. The deadline is August 31.
