Ajetomobi unveils animated football short

Gbenga Ajetomobi, head of Lagos-based studio Highbreed Animations, has confirmed his new animated short film Yekini will be released later this year.

Yekini follows an under-experienced football manager in a high-spending football club who is tasked with discovering the next new talent in the slums of Lagos to help the club back to its former glory days.

Introducing one of the main characters in the film, Ajetomobi said: “Rikardo is a protagonist, he is the popular guy, he is the superstar. He is the Blazers FC team captain, he is who everyone in the Eko-League is talking about. Yekini is coming.”

Although the project started as a short film, it has since been redeveloped into a series, with the short acting at the pilot. The six-part series will debut this year and is written by Abosi Ogba and Emmanuel Lop’laa Ogidi Olu and produced by Ajetomobi.
