AFRIFF, NEWF unveil Producers Lab Pitch
The African International Film Festival (AFRIFF) and non-profit organisation NEWF have partnered to launch a pitching initiative for storytellers and filmmakers with projects advocating for the protection of Africa’s natural history.
The Producers Lab Pitch will take place during the 12th edition of the AFRIFF, which is due to be held from November 5 to 11 in Lagos.
The initiative will give West African filmmakers who are passionate about environmental topics, wildlife or climate change the opportunity to produce a nature, wildlife or conservation film.
Five applicants will be shortlisted to pitch live during the festival, three of whom will be accepted into the 2024 NEWF Producers’ Lab Fellowship and be awarded a grant of US$4,500 to produce an eight-minute documentary film.
The selected fellows will participate in a year-long programme, during which they will be mentored by industry professionals, attend hybrid workshops and be guided through the filmmaking ecosystem from research to final delivery, focusing on developing story and enhancing their producer skillset.
Interested filmmakers who have worked in various areas and genres of the film industry but never produced a natural-world film of their own can register here.
The fellowship is slated to be held in March next year and the deadline for applications is October 26.
