Africa Magic’s Tinsel airs 3,500th episode

Tinsel, the longest-running drama series on the MultiChoice-owned Africa Magic channel, has reached a major milestone as it airs its 3,500th episode.
Described as a tale of drama, romance, betrayal and triumph, Tinsel began airing in August 2008 and revolves around two rival film companies. It stars Victor Olaotan and Funlola Aofiyebi-Raimi as the heads of the two studios.
To mark the 3,500-episode achievement, a documentary titled Through the Decades: A Tinsel Story has been released, which charts the changes, faces, improvements and losses the show has experienced over its 14 years on air.
“It’s a celebration of excellence. Fifteen seasons and counting. What a milestone,” the entertainment channel stated.

Busola Tejumola, executive head of content and West Africa channels at MultiChoice added: “This show has maintained its status as one of Africa’s most successful drama series for over 14 years.
“This is not a small feat, and I believe our audience continues to tune in to watch the series every weekday because it shows real life, real people and everyday circumstances. It feels like people are generally living their lives on TV.
“We are indeed happy to hit the 3,500-episode mark of this stellar series. At MultiChoice, we hope to continue growing and promoting local content and talents and expanding the boundaries of African film and television production as we have done all these years with Tinsel.”
The show has featured actors including Gideon Okeke, Osas Ighodaro, Damilola Adegbite and Chris Attoh. This year, Tinsel won the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Award for the longest running TV show in Africa.
