Africa Magic names AMVCA nominees

AMVCA hosts Bisola Aiyeola and Adjetey Anang

Nominees for the ninth edition of Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (the AMVCAs) have been announced by show hosts Nigerian actress Bisola Aiyeola and Ghanaian actor Adjetey Anang.

The award categories include Best Actor in a Drama, Best Short Film, Best Art Director, Best Documentary, Best Indigenous-Language Movie, Best Movie East Africa, Multichoice Talent Factory, Best Africa Magic Original Drama Series, Best Africa Magic Original Comedy Series, Best Original Telenovela and Best Unscripted Original.

The nominees in the Best Movie West Africa category are Four Four Forty Four (producer Winifred Mena Ajakpovi), Anikulapo (Kunle Afolayan), Kanaani (Rent-A-Studio & Native Media TV), Obara’ M (Kayode Kasum), Choke (Chris Odeh), Brotherhood (Jade Osiberu) and Red Carpet (Samira Yakubu).

Nominees in the Best Director category are Black Mail (director Obi Emelonye), Anikulapo (Kunle Afolayan), All The Colours Of The World Are Between Black & White (Babatunde Apalowo), Brotherhood (Loukman Ali), Shanty Town (Dimeji Ajibola), King of Thieves (Adebayo Tijani and Tope Adebayo), The Trade (Jade Osiberu) and Man of God (Bolanle Austen-Peters).

The nominees in the Best Indigenous-Language Movie Or TV Series: Yoruba category include Anikulapo (Kunle Afolayan), Ogeere Ololade (Tijani-Ebong), Abebi Seranko Seniyan (Funmi Bank Anthony and Abdullahi Abdulrasaq), Mr Raji (Okusanya Bayonle Samson) and Morenikeji (Karamot Adeboye).

Best Supporting Actress in a Drama or Movie hopefuls are Ivie Okujaye in On Your Own, Toni Tones in Brotherhood, Sola Sobowale in Anikulapo, Teniola Aladese in Love in a Pandemic, Efe Irele in Four Four Forty Four and Gina Castel in Kofa.

The ninth AMVCAs is sponsored by Amstel Malta and Zagg Energy Drink in association with Africa Magic and Multichoice. The award ceremony will take place on May 20.
